More from Mike George’s 1,001 Meditations!

This book’s really getting to me. I will definitely check it out at the shops next week. Here are a few more excerpts on impermanence and fear, just a couple of things more to ponder on for the coming year.

Sit quietly and reflect on your life right now. It is changing. The future is unknown; some of your hopes will not be realized - but neither will some of your fears. Also, you are getting older. You are on a journey, moving in a landscape that itself is in constant flux. All these changes constitute “home”. Take a few minutes to appreciate where you are now in your life… and feel grateful for it.

As the Russian novelist Dostoyevsky wrote, “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” If you find yourself in this position, quailing on the threshold of something new, take heart, for you are not alone in your fear. Be inspired by the knowledge that others have conquered fears before you. Venture bravely into the unknown.

Hope you all find some truth in these.
